GuessMate is a guess-who game for you and your mates. This page explains what information the app collects, why, and what it never does with it.
What we collect
- An email address, if you create an account — used only to sign you in and let you get back to the same profile on a new phone.
- A screen name and player tag you choose, shown to people you play against.
- Game results — matches played, matches won, badges earned — so your own stats and the leaderboards work.
- Your mates list, if you add friends inside the app — just who you've agreed to be mates with, nothing about them beyond that.
GuessMate Pro payments
GuessMate Pro is a one-off purchase. In the Android app you pay through Google Play, and Google handles the payment under its own privacy terms: we receive what we need to confirm the purchase and enable Pro on your account, plus any refund. On the website you pay through Stripe's hosted checkout. To match the purchase to your GuessMate account, we send Stripe a unique reference for the account you are signed into. Stripe collects and processes the payment details, and any contact or billing details you enter on its checkout page. GuessMate does not receive your full card number or security code. Stripe sends us the payment confirmation and account reference needed to enable Pro and help resolve purchase questions.
Stripe handles payment information under its own privacy terms. Read the Stripe Privacy Center.
Your profile picture
When you choose to add a profile picture, you are choosing to show it with your screen name to people you play online, including players you're matched with in Quick match, and beside your name on the leaderboards, which anyone using GuessMate can see. If you've saved your progress, a small copy is stored with your account so it can appear on leaderboards and your other devices; the full-size picture stays on your phone. If you don't want other players to see a picture, leave it blank and the game shows your first initial instead.
Online status and notifications
While GuessMate is open, it tells our server you're online, so your mates (only people you've both agreed to be mates with) can see you're on when they go to invite someone. Nobody else can see it.
If you turn on notifications, your phone gives us an address we can send notifications to on that phone. Notifications are off unless you choose to enable them in GuessMate and allow them in your phone or browser. When someone searches for your screen name and taps Add, GuessMate creates a mate request and, if you have notifications enabled, sends a push notification to your registered phone or phones. We may also notify you when someone says yes to your request. We use the push address only to deliver these mate-related notifications. Turn notifications off in GuessMate Settings or in your phone's or browser's notification settings. If you turn them off in GuessMate or log out, that phone's address is removed from our server.
Problem reports
If you use Report a problem, we receive what you type plus a few details to help fix it: your screen name and player tag, the version of the game, your screen size, and the type of phone and browser you're using. These are only used to fix the problem you reported.
Anonymous game stats
Three things are sent without your name, email or anything else that says who you are:
- Guest games. If you play without an account, each finished game sends a random code made on your phone, the kind of game and the card set, so we know how many people play as guests. Your Daily Bonus streak is kept against the same random code.
- Wrong answers on cards. When the game corrects an answer, it sends the card set, the card, the question and what was answered, so we can fix cards with the wrong details. This never happens on a board of your own photos.
- Bug reports. If something goes wrong in the game, it sends the error message, the version of the game, which screen you were on, and whether it's a phone, a computer or the app, so we can fix it. At most a few a day.
Voice questions
On a board of your own photos you can say your question instead of typing it. That uses your phone's or browser's own speech-to-text, which asks to use your microphone first. GuessMate only receives the words, and doesn't keep them.
Your own photos
Photos never leave your device except when you choose to play with them. If you build a board out of your own photos for Pass & Play, those pictures stay on your phone — full stop. If you use a photo board to play someone online, the pictures are sent only to the specific person you're playing that game with, so they can see the board too. They are never stored on a server, never shown to a stranger, and never used for anything except that game. Photo boards can only be played online with your mates, never in Quick match or public games.
What we don't do
- No adverts, and no advertising SDK of any kind.
- We don't sell your personal information or use it for targeted advertising.
- We share information with service providers only as needed to operate GuessMate, including Supabase for account and game data, Stripe for payments, and Cloudflare for website hosting.
- We don't scrape or read your contacts or social media.
- A board made of your own mates' photos is never shown to a stranger — only to people on your mates list, or a code game you've shared directly.
Where it's stored
Account details, game results and mates lists are stored with our database provider (Supabase), used to run the app. Stripe processes payment details through its checkout. The website and app are served by Cloudflare, which, like any web host, keeps standard request logs (such as your IP address and browser type) to keep the service running and secure. We don't use cookies, tracking scripts or analytics tools in the game. Local game settings — like sound volume or the last board you played — are stored on your own device and never sent anywhere.
Deleting your account
To delete your GuessMate account: open GuessMate, tap your picture to open Your Profile, scroll to the bottom and tap Delete my account, then confirm twice.
This deletes from GuessMate: your account and email address, your screen name, player tag and profile picture, your level and XP, your badges, your game record, your Daily scores, your mates list and any problem reports you sent. Everything stored on the phone itself is wiped at the same time. Deleting your GuessMate account does not delete information Stripe holds in its own systems. If we need to retain a limited purchase record for legal, accounting, security or support reasons, it will not keep your GuessMate account active. Contact us if you have questions about a purchase record; Stripe's own privacy terms explain its handling and retention of payment information.
If you can't get into the app, email guessmaster@guessmate.co.uk from the address you signed up with and we'll delete it all by hand within 30 days.
Children
GuessMate is rated for a general audience and isn't aimed specifically at children. We don't knowingly collect more information from a child than from any other player, and the same rules above apply to everyone.
